Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)

Design and Construction Management of Laboratory on UMBC Campus, Maryland.

Objective:

Relocate the current laboratory functions of Science and Education from the Campus of HHMI to the UMBC campus in Baltimore, Maryland. The project consisted of the construction of 3,900 square feet of laboratory and office space, and the utilities and infrastructure to support them.

Approach and Results:

The work included but not limited to Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Data/Communications. The new laboratory was designed and constructed in an existing building and consisted of multiple teaching stations, prep laboratory space, lab storage and open office area. SandHurst-AEC coordinated the design and construction activities between the HHMI building teams and the UMBC campus team on issues of building utilities, campus facilities permitting process, drawing reviews, IT integration, and scheduling of laboratory equipment and furniture purchase and installation.
