Project Description

Residential

Objective:

The Client, a doctor, and a diplomat wanted a calming contemplative space next to their home office. The existing room overlooked the garden, which would be landscaped later. The Client also wanted an area to display their artwork with track lighting to emphasize the unique art pieces. The task also involved relocating a storage area away from the office and the mechanical room. There were structural considerations in widening the space. The total project area was approximately 600 SF with exterior painting and roof work. We completed the project in three weeks during the height of COVID 19, which made it incredibly challenging given all the restrictions and protocols observed.

Approach and Results:

We reviewed the brief a few times with the Clients, and during the discussions, we designed full-height exterior glass doors opening into the garden. We also increase the square footage of the contemplative space by shrinking the size of the office and the storage. Lastly, we incorporated the Client’s idea of skylights with shades which increased the lighting quality in the space.

The final construction was on time. The new exterior sliding doors arrived as scheduled. All finish selections were by the Client. It was a collaborative experience that made the project a success from the Clients’ and Contractors’ perspectives.
